Rail Powered Lighting - Casey Jones post

Here's an example of solving a problem with technology. You might recall seeing toy and model passenger trains that didn't look very realistic. The lights flickered when it was running and would turn off when the train stopped. A PC board combining LEDs, ICs and capacitors made by Voltscooter keeps the lights on. Direct current from the rails is picked up via the wheels and charges the capacitors which then light the LEDs. The electronic circuit deals with intermittent current of either polarity and varying voltages. When the electricity at the rails is off the LEDs remain lighted for several minutes.
